Use the Mixture formula to stretch out your alcohol for sanitizing during the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Hey all! If you are like me and use Isopropyl Alcohol or Rubbing Alcohol on a daily basis to fight Coronavirus, then you may be running low. Thankfully I got a hold of two big 32 ounce bottles of it right at the beginning of the pandemic, but I am starting to run low already.

I did find a bottle of 91% alcohol in my bathroom cabinet. Its a miracle I can find anything in that cabinet let alone something like 91% alcohol. Which is like GOLD in a pandemic. But my 16-ounce bottle only has about 9 ounces left in it and 91% to kill germs is like using Buckshot for bird hunting! A bit overkill.

Now the CDC recommends using 60% alcohol for use as a sanitizer against Coronavirus. So how can I stretch out my 91% and bring it down to say...70% and making my 9-ounce bottle go farther? Remember back when you were being taught Algebra and finding what X and Y equaled? Remember saying "When in the hell am I ever going to use this in my life!?" Hahaaa.....well guess what!!??

So.....in my situation I have my 9 ounces of 91% and I found a 16-ounce bottle of 50%. (And by "I found" I mean "Jessie found"). Since the 70% and higher bottles are hard to find you may come across 50% or none at all. Before jess came home with the 50% I was going to have to add around 2 ounces of water(Roughly) to my 91% to get 70%. Its a couple more ounces but that sucks! Since she found 50% I can add around 9.5 ounces to my 91% to get 70%. That will get me an extra week or two out of my sanitizer! Hell yeah!!!

Ok....so I gave you the long version of my point but hopefully, it gave you perspective. So below is a link for a nice refresher course on using the mixture formula so you can stretch out your potent alcohol for a little less potent, but effective. Now I use 70% as my target just to be on the safe side. Here is the link below. If you are having trouble and would like help or for me to give you the answer based on what you have then shoot me a message and I will be happy to help. GOOD LUCK!!!
