Ventilator Shortage Could Cost You Your Life

These, my friends, are downright terrifying times. Right now we are not living in a normal world where we have everything available to us. We can't go to a restaurant and eat with friends, we cant take a walk in the park or a swim at the beach. Want to see a sports event like football, basketball or races? Well, not today! (For most places anyway) Even the healthcare system where the nurses and doctors will do all that they can to save your life are throwing away the rule book. Right now is probably the best time to get coronavirus. Why? Well, there are experimental drugs that could help, vaccine case studies, a slew of antibiotics and steroids. Also, there is a chance you will survive it. If you are healthy you probably have greater than 90% chance of kicking this thing and moving on with your life. Either way, there are enough staff and supplies at this point but that won't be the case really soon. Supplies and equipment are limited and they are running out very fast! Even doctors and nurses are getting sick and some are fatal. Then there are the ones that aren't so lucky. Diabetics, folks with high blood pressure and hypertension, cancer, lung diseases such as COPD and Asthma. This article is an eye-opener, to say the least. In the event that ventilators become scarce and there are not enough to go around, medical staff will have to determine who gets one and who comes off one. Yes, I said come off as in taken off in order to save a patient that has a better chance at surviving. People with underlying health conditions like the ones mentioned in the last paragraph will be last on the list to get a ventilator if there are not enough to go around. If a life can be saved by taking a patient off a ventilator that doesn't have as good of a chance to survive then they will and they do not need the consent of the patient or their family. These are stressful times for Nurses and Doctors. They worked hard to save lives, not decide who lives and who doesn't. These are decisions that no one should have to make. This is a war and medical staff are the soldiers and the enemy is hitting hard with everything it has and it grows bigger and bigger every day. Some of you are taking this seriously and then there are some that shrug it off. Think about your family, your husband or wife, your children, and your fellow Americans. You could spread it to one person that can spread it to ten others and then it finds its way to some people that cannot fight it off. Don't be that person. Please listen, practice social distancing, hand washing, and avoid going out at all if you can. The world is on its knees and we need each other now more than ever. Its time to put our differences aside and pick each other up. I love all of you. My family, my friends, my coworkers and my neighbors. You all mean something to me and always will. We will get through this and be even stronger after it is over. Stay Safe and Love Always, John Fleming USA, Floral City, Florida
